Swallows are often known as a 'bird of blessing' by Lincolnshire folk. In Wales there is a story that the swallow is a seamstress turned into a bird for stealing a ball of white thread. Periods of bad weather associated with swallows arrival and departure from this country are known as swallow storms. If the birds fly low the weather will be bad and if they fly high, the opposite is true.
